Virus Protection: ROOMS and ViResist

ViResist lets you build an extra level of virus protection into your desktop.

Some viruses work by adding their code to your application programs. ROOMS can perform checks on an application program and refuse to run the application if it thinks it has been tampered with.

When a ROOMS icon is created for an application program, ROOMS generates a checksum for the program. ROOMS remembers the checksum and does not change it so long as the icon exists in that world.

When you run the program through the ROOMS desktop, if ViResist is activated for that particular icon, ROOMS validates the program against the recorded checksum. If the checksum does not match ROOMS does not run the program.

You can enable ViResist for an icon in a ROOMS world from the Target File page (page 2) of the Icon/Property Wizard.
